Premium WordPress Theme: Stylize

Stylize is an elegant, gorgeous and stylish magazine style Premium WordPress Theme. It supports latest WordPress(2.9+) functions, including thumbnails, threaded (nested) comments, comment pages, sticky post. Stylize is inspired by Hypebeast, I add a top billboard slider, which you can set images and links in options page. A tabbed sidebar section is added as well to display more information in less place. In single post page, I separate trackbacks from comments, this makes the post looks clear and more professional. The theme settings page is the big point of Stylize theme, I spent a lot of time on it. In the settings page, you can set head logo, enable or disable slider, slider images and links(as many as five slides), enable or disable sidebar subscription, customize subsciption images and links, enable or disable tabs, tabs’ title, customize RSS feed, add content to footer(Google Analytics code, for example).

How to Find Your FeedBurner Email Subscription Link

It’s a good way to let your blog readers to subscribe your blog via email, you can do this easily with FeedBurner. FeedBurner offers you a subscription form for your readers to subscribe, but sometimes we want to design our own way for subscription, maybe use a button or what. We need a link for this, we can find it in Feedburner, let me show you.

First of all, you need to activate email subscription of your feed. Go to Publicize page of your feed in Feedburner, click Email Subscriptions on the left hand side, you will see the email subscription page, there is a Activate button in the bottom, click it to activate email subscription. And then you will see some codes in the middle of the page, look closer to the codes, you will find something like this:

While ‘ZackLive’ in the code, is my feed name. The link in this code:

is the email subscription link, you can test it by paste it in your browser, you will be asked to input your email to subcribe, that’s what we want.

The email subscription link can be used, for example, you have a cool email image, you can set the link to this image, when readers click on the image, they will go to subscription page, and then Feedburner will take care other things.

The Right Way of Adding JavaScript to WordPress

I’ve written a post, Prevent JQuery From Conflict With Other Libraries, I mentioned that the right way to import JQuery to WordPress is using:

This will load the default JQuery coming with WordPress to your pages, the problem is what if you want a newer version of JQuery? WordPress doesn’t contain the latest version of JQuery, as they are not updating at the same time. But we can update JQuery for WordPress:

Put this into your function.php, it tells WordPress to use ‘http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.4.2/jquery.min.js’ which is the latest version of JQuery as ‘jquery’ in this site. Very easy, isn’t it?

Another advantage to use wp_enqueue_script rather than directly use script tag is to prevent calling duplicate script. Some plugins, like Contact Form plugin, will call JQuery as well, if you use wp_enqueue_script, WordPress will not call JQuery twice.

wp_enqueue_script can be used to load customized javascript, this is an example of loading jquery.cycle.all.min.js which a slider plugin of JQuery:

Notice that I add “?ver=2.9.2″ to the end of the link of the js file. 2.9.2 is the version of WordPress I am using. This is because that I found that WordPress will automatically add “?ver=2.9.2″ to the link, it turns out the link will be broken. After I added “?ver=2.9.2″ to wp_enqueue_script, everything become normal. I am not sure about the reason, wish someone can tell me.

The last parameter, array(‘jquery’), means this script is based on ‘jquery’, so that it will be loaded after JQuery.

If you are using wp_enqueue_script to load javascript, you have to put it above wp_head.

Engadget made a full chart comparing HTC EVO 4G with Google Nexus One and Motorola Droid. You can easily find out what’s the difference among these 3 phones. As seen in the chart, HTC EVO 4G has the top specs, Android 2.1, 4.3-inch screen, 1GB internal storage, 8MP rear camera with LED flash and supporting HDMI output.

Google Shut Down Google Search in China

Google’s search website in China, Google.cn, has been shut down and is now redirecting to Google.com.hk. All Google search services, including web, news and images were moved Google Hong Kong.

As reported by some Chinese users, if you are using iGoogle, you will not be redirect to Google Hong Kong.

I was expecting Google can make some changes to Chinese web market, but what I’ve seen is Google being assimilated by the Chinese market. I’ve got to said Google didn’t understand web users in China. You know what, many Chinese people told me that they never used Google, some even said they never heard of Google, maybe it’s a right move for Google to leave China, but I can’t help feeling disappointed.

Google Shut Down Google Search in China

Google’s search website in China, Google.cn, has been shut down and is now redirecting to Google.com.hk. All Google search services, including web, news and images were moved Google Hong Kong.

As reported by some Chinese users, if you are using iGoogle, you will not be redirect to Google Hong Kong.

Here is the official post from Google:

On January 12, we announced on this blog that Google and more than twenty other U.S. companies had been the victims of a sophisticated cyber attack originating from China, and that during our investigation into these attacks we had uncovered evidence to suggest that the Gmail accounts of dozens of human rights activists connected with China were being routinely accessed by third parties, most likely via phishing scams or malware placed on their computers. We also made clear that these attacks and the surveillance they uncovered—combined with attempts over the last year to further limit free speech on the web in China including the persistent blocking of websites such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Google Docs and Blogger—had led us to conclude that we could no longer continue censoring our results on Google.cn.

So earlier today we stopped censoring our search services—Google Search, Google News, and Google Images—on Google.cn. Users visiting Google.cn are now being redirected to Google.com.hk, where we are offering uncensored search in simplified Chinese, specifically designed for users in mainland China and delivered via our servers in Hong Kong. Users in Hong Kong will continue to receive their existing uncensored, traditional Chinese service, also from Google.com.hk. Due to the increased load on our Hong Kong servers and the complicated nature of these changes, users may see some slowdown in service or find some products temporarily inaccessible as we switch everything over.

Figuring out how to make good on our promise to stop censoring search on Google.cn has been hard. We want as many people in the world as possible to have access to our services, including users in mainland China, yet the Chinese government has been crystal clear throughout our discussions that self-censorship is a non-negotiable legal requirement. We believe this new approach of providing uncensored search in simplified Chinese from Google.com.hk is a sensible solution to the challenges we’ve faced—it’s entirely legal and will meaningfully increase access to information for people in China. We very much hope that the Chinese government respects our decision, though we are well aware that it could at any time block access to our services. We will therefore be carefully monitoring access issues, and have created this new web page, which we will update regularly each day, so that everyone can see which Google services are available in China.

In terms of Google’s wider business operations, we intend to continue R&D work in China and also to maintain a sales presence there, though the size of the sales team will obviously be partially dependent on the ability of mainland Chinese users to access Google.com.hk. Finally, we would like to make clear that all these decisions have been driven and implemented by our executives in the United States, and that none of our employees in China can, or should, be held responsible for them. Despite all the uncertainty and difficulties they have faced since we made our announcement in January, they have continued to focus on serving our Chinese users and customers. We are immensely proud of them.

Less Theme: A Blank Theme for WordPress Theme Designers

I’ve think about this for a while, and now the first version is ready to go. The Less theme is a blank or a template theme for WordPress theme designers, it supports the latest WordPress, has all common functions a WordPress theme should have. It was designed in simple layout so that you can easily modify it, to make your own themes.

I create this theme, because I want to have a basic template to start with when I create a new theme. By copying this theme and change the name, I don’t need to re-create those must-have files, you know, index.php, single.php, comments.php, etc.

Less theme supports latest version of WordPress, which means it supports threaded (nested) comments, sticky-post and comment pages. A theme options page is added, you can change the header logo and set your own RSS feed(like a Feedburner feed). Trackbacks are separated from comments, it makes the post page looks better.

That’s all for now, I’ll keep updating this theme as it’s the basic of all my new themes. You can use it for your new themes as well, wish this theme helps you too.
